WW II Vet Wins Duck Race at Flags, Books and Bands

Congratulations to John Wojtowicz, 88, the World War II vet who won the duck race at the recent Flags, Books and Bands fund-raiser.

The opportunity to attend Flags, Books and Bands was a main reason that WWII veteran John Wojtowicz came from Niagara Falls to visit his daughter, Paula, this Memorial Day. He's the lucky winner of a $100 Visa gift card from Pittsford FCU, Mendon.

His prize was a $100 Visa gift card donated to the event by Pittsford Federal Credit Union in Mendon.

“He has really good luck,” explained his daughter, Paula Wojtowicz of Honeoye Falls.

An exempt fireman, Wojtowicz once said he wanted to win second prize (a lawn mower) in a Town of Niagara fire department fund-raiser because Paula needed the prize. And win second prize he did.

Wojtowicz could also be considered lucky in his tour of duty. A member of the 299th army combat engineers, Wojtowicz stormed Omaha Beach at the Battle of Normandy, and survived the Battle of the Bulge.

Please join me in saluting this veteran, and in congratulating him on his most recent lucky day.
