All the Books Fit–Just

Don’t be surprised when you walk into the new library if–in addition to looking awesome–it also feels a little tight. That’s to be expected since the library was designed with two phases and the new building comprises just phase 1.

The great news is that the completion of phase 1 means Mendon Public Library will for the first time in years be able to display its entire collection. In the old building, lack of shelving and space limitations made easy access to every item impossible.

Putting out every item means that some spaces that will later be comfortable reading areas will now be home to shelves full of books. Never fear, completion of the both phases of the project will mean that the library is just the right size for people and books.

In addition to a few comfortable chairs, the adult fireplace reading room in the new library will house shelving and books until phase 2 (the renovation of the old library) is completed.

The children's room in phase 1 will become the reference area when phase 2 is done. Phase 2 will create the "red door loft children's room" in the historic 1936 library.
