Award-Winning Author Plimpton to Give Reading at Mendon Library on Nov. 2

Author and former Lima, N.Y., resident Colleen Plimpton will read excerpts from her award-winning book, Mentors in the Garden of Life, at 7 p.m. on Wed. Nov. 2 at Mendon Public Library, 22 N. Main St., Honeoye Falls. Plimpton is a nationally acclaimed garden columnist, lecturer, and teacher at the New York Botanical Garden who maintains close ties to her hometown.

Mentors in the Garden of Life is a unique collection of funny, sad, touching and memorable stories about the joys of digging in the dirt and unexpected life lessons learned from gardening. The setting of the first half of the book is in Livingston and Monroe counties, primarily Lima, Honeoye Falls, and Caledonia/Scottsville. Each chapter of the book ends with a profile of the plant around which the story revolved.

Plimpton has appeared on numerous TV and radio programs including CBSABCGood Morning America and PBS. She pens a gardening column for Hearst Connecticut Media Groupcoaches gardeners, lectures widely, and writes for publications such as GreenPrints, Connecticut Gardener, and Toastmaster. In addition to the book reading, Plimpton will answer gardening questions and autograph books during the library program. A portion of the sales at this event will be donated to the Friends of the Mendon Public Library.
