A large crowd turned out by the Tichenor table recently as the Honeoye Falls-Mendon Rotary Club presented a check for $5,000 to help fulfill the promise of Mendon Public Library’s new building.

“Rotary is about service, about giving back to the community,” said Susie Rose, president of the HF-M Rotary. “The library is a vital part of the community.

“When I was a kid,” Rose remembered, “the only place to go write a paper and do research was the public library. When I moved here in 2007, I would have been lost without the library. Not only did it have books, it had a fax machine.

“The library plays a variety of roles for  different people at different times” in their lives, she added. “Thank you for putting that in our community.”

Larry Young, president of the Library Board of Trustees, said: “It is because of the generosity of people like you that we are in this building.”

Ron Knight, chairman of the library’s Heart of our Town capital campaign committee, also thanked the Rotarians. “This gift comes at a vital time, as we drive to complete the funding for this building,” he said. “This gift from Rotary sends a signal to others to support the library, too. Thanks on behalf of the Friends of the Mendon Public Library, the capital campaign and the trustees.”
