‘Harmonic’ New Library Design Garners Architecture Award

Rebecca Barrone and Scott Hemenway were on hand to accept the award.

HBT Architects of Pittsford have won an award for design excellence for the new Mendon Public Library building.

Presented on May 12 at the annual American Institute of Architects Rochester 2012 Design Excellence Awards ceremony, HBT’s award is a citation – institutional. Comments on the new library’s design from the awards jury included:

  • “A refreshingly bold statement unfettered by what could have been a cliched solution”;
  • “Surprisingly well executed contextual response”; and
  • “The scale, proportions and choice of materials are harmonic.”

The HBT design team for the library building included Rebecca Barrone, Kelly Jahn, Scott Hemenway and Joe Twomey. Plaques highlighting the award will be provided for display in the library and the town hall.
